Largest known prime number in the world discovered by GIMPS in Missouri

The newest largest prime number has been discovered by the Great Internet Marsenne Prime Search project (GIMPS) in Missouri.  The number is 22 million digits in length.

The next step is to discover a prime number 100 million digits long.   The first to discover that is eligible for a $150,000 prize through the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
